Alcohol Detox Programs

We want to provide the best information on the nations drug and alcohol program.

Treatments Used In Alcohol Drug Rehad Centers

By the time substance abusers become aware of the trouble drugs and alcohol are causing in their lives, it is not so easy for them to give up their bad habits. No longer can they make it throughout the day without a little nip or a little happy medicine. At this point, alcohol drug rehab is the only chance they have if they ever want to regain their lives.

The Programs Used in Alcohol Rehab Centers

Alcohol rehab treatments vary according to each addict's behavioral and medical conditions. All treatments begin with detoxification, the removal of all drugs and alcohol from the body. The rehab does not end there, though.

A full recovery takes a great deal more than detoxification. Detoxification controls the body's often painful reaction to drug and alcohol withdrawal, but it does not erase the emotional need for the substances. A drug rehab program that nurtures the whole patient is Cognitive Behavioral and Relapse Prevention.

In this abstinence program, individuals learn to rewrite their own biographies. They are taught healthier ways to act and to think so they will not be tempted to drink and/or use drugs. Avoidance is one of the strategies that is utilized in Relapse Prevention therapy at most alcohol rehab clinics.

Patients learn it is best to avoid people and places that will place them near their weaknesses. Rehab redefines how addicts see themselves. Never should they view themselves as failures, rather as people who have slipped up on occasion but are determinedly working to stand tall again. Rehab gives the victim a chance to restart their lives all over again.

It is not easy to place a numerical figure on the long-term success records of alcohol rehabilitation centers. What is known though is that Cognitive Behavioral and Relapse Prevention recovery methods have shown they can be effectively used as proven and reliable treatment program against drug and alcohol addiction.

A person's success in rehab is somewhat determined by the treatment program he or she enters, but it is mainly decided on by the individual's readiness to experience a life change. Historically, it has been seen that the longer the treatment, the better the odds of a sober lifestyle (at least three months is a recommended time frame for initial treatment), but this is not always true. Recovery is a lifestyle change, not just a treatment. In the end, it is what a person takes away from an alcohol rehab opportunity that decides his future.
